Dr Rui Albuquerque completed his undergraduate dental degree in Portugal (2006), his Master’s degree in Oral Medicine (2007) and PhD (2012) in the University of Barcelona. He then moved to the UK, where he completed his specialist training in Oral Medicine in Birmingham. After completing specialist training, Rui was appointed Consultant in Oral Medicine at Guy’s Hospital, London& Honorary clinical Senior Lecturer – King’s college London. Dr Barbara Carey is a Consultant in Oral Medicine at Guy’s Hospital, London. She completed her undergraduate dental degree at University College Cork and undergraduate medical degree at Trinity College Dublin, Ireland, and worked in a variety of acute hospital and community dental and medical settings prior to relocating to the UK to undertake specialty training. She obtained her Fellowship in Dental Surgery of the Royal College of Surgeons in 2018. She has also obtained her Fellowship to the Higher Education Authority (2017). Currently, she is an examiner for ISFE, ORE and MFDS examinations. She is current Treasurer of the British and Irish Society of Oral Medicine and current Region 1 (UK and Ireland) representative of the European Association of Oral Medicine (2018-Present).

Michael Escudier completed undergraduate dental training at Guy’s Dental Hospital (1981-1985). Following general professional training he undertook undergraduate medical studies at St Bartholomew’s Hospital (1987-1992) and completed pre-registration house officer posts (1992-1993).
After returning to King’s College London as a clinical lecturer (1994) he completed a competitively awarded South Thames Research Training Fellowship (1996-1998) on Salivary Lithotripsy for which he received an MD (2010). After obtaining his Fellowship in Dental Surgery (1998) he undertook oral medicine specialist training (1999-2002) and attained his Specialty Fellowship Examination (2002). He was appointed an Honorary Consultant to Guy’s and St Thomas’ NHS Foundation Trust (2003) and Professor or Oral Medicine & Education at King’s College London (2016).
In addition to general oral medicine he has developed and delivers three sub-specialty multi-disciplinary clinical services in salivary gland disease, orofacial granulomatosis and oro-facial pain, which support clinical, translational and discovery science.
Richard Cook qualified BDS Hons from the University of London, Guy’s Hospital in 1989, working for three years as House Surgeon / SHO posts, graduating FDS (Gold Medal) from RCS England in 1993 before taking up his first Lecturer post within the Guy’s Dental School.He then transferred to University of Birmingham to complete his medical degree and after two years of junior medical jobs, completed his MRCS Edinburgh. He returned to the Guy’s Campus of King’s College London to undertake a PhD as an MRC Clinician Scientist, and continued his Oral Medicine training to consultant level, with an NIHR Clinical training Fellowship. Richard’s FDS(OM)RCSEd was awarded in in 2008 and he took up his consultant appointment at Guy’s in 2009, when he also completed his PGCAP, and was awarded FHEA as a consequence. Richard is now Professor/Hon Consultant in Oral Medicine at the Guy’s campus of King’s Faculty of Dentistry, Oral & Craniofacial Sciences. and R&D Lead for the Dental Hospital. His research interests encompass education, optics, opto-diagnostics and applications of non-invasive and non-threatening imaging, to human diagnosis and disease / treatment monitoring, with direct applications to pre-malignant / malignant disease.
Saman Warnakulasuriya is emeritus Professor of Oral Medicine and Experimental Pathology at King’s College London. He is the Director of the WHO Collaborating Centre for Oral Cancer based in the UK. He is a global expert on the epidemiology and risk factors for oral cancer and has conducted demonstration studies on tobacco cessation both in primary care and in specialist clinics.
Dr Selvam Thavaraj was appointed at King’s College London and Guy’s & St Thomas’ NHS Foundation Trust in 2009 following specialist head and neck pathology training. He is part of the histopathology service for one of the largest head and neck cancer treatment centres in the United Kingdom. His research interests include biomarkers in premalignancy and cancer as well as various aspects of microbes in head and neck cancer.
Dr Lisette Collins is a Consultant in Oral and Maxillofacial Pathology and Guy’s Hospital, London. She graduated with her Dental Degree in 2012 from Cardiff University and undertook core training in a variety of primary, acute and community placements. She undertook her Speciality Training at Sheffield NHS Foundation Trust, obtaining her Fellowship to the Royal College of Pathologists in 2019. She was appointed to her Consultant position at Guy’s Hospital the same year, where she continues to participate in Undergraduate Teaching at King’s College London as well as speciality training of future pathologists and associated specialties. In addition, she has several research interests, in particular PD-L1 in head and neck cancer.

Alberto Pispero qualified in Dentistry in 2006 and specialized in Oral Surgery in 2009 at the Università degli Studi di Milano. He works as surgeon for the oral medicine service in the Dental School at the university hospital of Milano (Italy) and within private practice as a specialist in Oral Surgery and Implantology. He is Clinical Tutor in Oral Surgery and Oral Medicine at the Dental School of the Università degli Studi di Milano. Giovanni Lodi qualified in Dentistry at the Università degli Studi di Milano in 1991. In 1998 he obtained his PhD from the University of London, and the same year he started to work for the oral medicine service of the dental clinic of the university hospital of Milano (Italy). In 2002 he joined the Faculty of Medicine and Dentistry of the Università degli Studi di Milano. He has published about 200 works in the field of oral medicine, evidence based dentistry and special needs.
Niccolò Lombardi graduated in Dentistry in 2011 at the Università degli Studi di Milano (Milan, Italy). In 2015 he completed 3-years postgraduate program as specialist in Oral Surgery at the Università degli Studi di Milano. He is currently at the last year of PhD program in Clinical Research at the Università degli Studi di Milano, working on a research project about oral potentially malignant disorders (OPMDs) and treatment of oral leukoplakias.
He currently works at San Paolo Hospital in Milan in Odontostomatology II unit as full-time senior consultant. JC FRICAIN is Doctor of Dental surgery from Bordeaux University (1992), PhD in Biology and Health, (1997), Research Director (2004), Specialist qualified in Oral Surgery (2011). He has been Associate Professor in oral pathology and surgery from 1997 to 2009 and Professor since 2009. He oversees oral bone and soft tissue pathology diagnosis and treatment in the Department of Oral Health at Bordeaux University Hospital, since 1997. Dr Sylvain Catros graduated as a dentist in 2004 in Bordeaux, France where he subsequently took his internship in Oral Surgery. He also holds a PhD in Biomaterials focused on “Laser Assisted Bioprinting for Bone Tissue Engineering Applications”. Finally, he was a post-doctoral fellow at University of Connecticut Health Center, Farmington, CT, USA.
He is currently an Associate Professor in Oral Surgery at the University of Bordeaux Dental School, France. His clinical activities are focused in Oral Medicine and Oral Surgery.
Dr Mathilde Fénelon performed an internship in Oral Surgery in Toulouse, France and was graduated as an oral surgeon in 2016. She also holds a PhD in Biomaterials focused on the application of amniotic membrane for bone regeneration

Prof. Vlaho Brailo DMD, PhD., was born in 1977 in Dubrovnik. He graduated from the University of Zagreb School of Dental Medicine in 2002. From 2004 he is employed at the Department of Oral Medicine at the University of Zagreb School of Dental Medicine where he actively participates in clinical, scientific and educational activities. He obtained specialist title in oral medicine in 2010. Prof Brailo authored and co-authored numerous scientific and professional papers and held lectures in international and national professional meetings. Márcio Diniz Freitas graduated in Dentistry at the University Federal de Pelotas- Brazil, in 1999. Following this, he performed three years (1999-2002) of postgraduate training in Oral Medicine, Oral Surgery and Oral implantology at the University of Santiago de Compostela (USC), Spain.

Dr Martins da Silva is a licensed dentist by the Instituto Superior de Ciências da Saúde Norte (ISCSN). He completed his PhD in Odontology and Medicine from University of Santiago de Compostela in Spain. He also has completed a master’s degree in oral surgery and implantology and a diploma in implantology and forensic dentistry from the University Paul Sabatier – Toulouse III. Raj Ariyaratnam is a Professor of Dental Education and Global Oral Health and The Academic Lead for Oral Medicine Teaching programme at the University of Manchester in addition to being a practising Specialist in Oral Medicine. He is also the Lead for Social Responsibility (Dentistry) and Global Oral Health Initiatives (GOHI) at the University of Manchester and a Senior Examiner at the Royal College of Surgeons, England.
